This is a simple step by step guide to connect Google Ads & Google Merchant Center. This guide is relevant to all eCommerce retailers wanting to advertise on Google Shopping.
In our previous guide you learnt what Google Shopping was and how to set it up. This guide focuses on the steps and processes in order to connect your Google Ads account with Google Merchant Center. In order to start advertising your products.
Guide to Connecting Google Ads to Google Merchant Center (GMC)
1.) Login to your Google Merchant Center Account
2.) Once logged in, click the spanner icon in the grey bar at the top of the page to the right hand side. Scroll down in the menu underneath ‘Settings’ and select ‘Linked Accounts’
3.) The first tab in the light grey bar at the top will be Google Ads. Scroll down the page to Link Account
4.) Once you click linked account a popup will appear and you will be asked to enter your Google Ads ID. Enter your ID and press send link request.
Your Google Ads ID can be found when logging into your Google Ads account it will appear in the top right hand corner and will consist of 10 digits, usually in this format 555-555-5555.
5.) When this has been completed, you will receive a notification by email (as long as your email is associated with the Google Ads in question. Alternatively login to your Google Ads account and you will see an alert upon logging in informing you that a Google Merchant Center account is trying to link to the Google Ads account, it will look like this:
6.) If the alert fails to materialise then you can navigate to Tools & Settings (Spanner Icon) and scroll down to ‘Linked Accounts’.
7.) When you click this link, it will take you to a page with all the 3rd party Google Apps and external apps you can link to, scroll down to Google Merchant Center and select ‘Details’.
8.) Once you reach this page, it will finally show you the GMC account that wants to connect to this Google Ads account, click ‘view details’.
9.) The details will pop-up you should check all the information in this pop-up is correct and when you are satisfied, click ‘approve’.
Once you have completed this process, your Google Merchant Center account has been successfully connected to your Google Ads account. Give it a few hours and you will be ready to setup your first Google Shopping campaign and get your ppc strategy underway.
A few things to remember…
- Make sure prior to beginning this process you have setup both Google Ads and Google Merchant Center accounts.
- In order to connect Google Ads with Google Merchant Center you will need to begin the process from Google Merchant Center and not Google Ads.
- You only need to setup a Google Merchant Center account if you are an ecommerce enabled online retailer.
